FREDRICKSON | PHOTOGRAPHS

I grew up in Natick, Massachusetts with a wonderful family – parents, three younger brothers and a grandmother nearby. After high school, I wanted warmer weather and went to the University of Florida where I met my future husband, Gerry. At the end of my freshman year, I developed type 1 diabetes, which forced me to become interested in medicine. My major changed, and I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Gerry and I moved to Dallas, Texas and eventually divorced. I became interested in art and went back to school for a Masters Degree in Art, however, I returned to nursing to ensure a reliable income.

I was recruited from the University of Texas, where I was working as a Clinical Research Nurse to work in a start up company in California developing insulin pumps for people with diabetes. Working at pump companies for 25 years provided great pleasure, knowing I was helping advance treatment  in pump and glucose sensor technologies. I traveled around the world developing educational programs in this new field. Today, many, many people with diabetes are benefiting from insulin pump and continuous glucose sensors therapies to manage their diabetes.

Currently, my husband Trevor, a race car designer and I live in southern California. I’ve been exploring genealogy, and have gone back to developing and creating art through the medium of photography.
