Trevor had always fantasized about taking a train all the way across Canada. After much research, we decided to take the Rocky Mountaineer Train from Vancouver to Banff . We then switched to  the Canadian Pacific Train to take us to Toronto. We should have done it in reverse, because we were totally spoiled on the Rocky Mountaineer. The second train was clean, and people were nice, but the endless delays whereby the train just stopped for hours was a little difficult, especially without the mountain beauty.
